Treating asthma in combination with another long-term asthma-control medicine (e.g., inhaled corticosteroids). It may also be used to prevent breathing problems caused by exercise. Aerolizer is a long-acting beta-agonist bronchodilator. It works by widening the airways in the lungs, which helps you breathe more easily.
Aerolizer is used with a long-term asthma control medicine, such as an inhaled corticosteroid, in adults and children ages 5 and older:
- to control symptoms of asthma, and
- to prevent symptoms such as wheezing
Do not use Aerolizer unless your healthcare provider has taught you and you understand everything. Ask your healthcare provider or pharmacist if you have any questions
The Aerolizer consists of the following parts:
- A cap to protect the mouthpiece of the base
- A base that allows the proper release of medicine from the capsule. The base consists of:
- A mouth piece
- A capsule chamber
- A button with “winglets” (projecting side pieces) and pins on each side
- An air inlet channel.
- Remove the blue cap from the Aerolizer device.
- Grasp the stem (top) of the Aerolizer, and twist it away from the bottom of the device.
- Remove a medication capsule from the packaging and place into the pill reservoir (see photo). Do not swallow the capsule
- Twist the stem back into place.
- Using your thumb and index finger, firmly press the blue buttons on the side of the Aerolizer device. This break opens the medication capsule so that the medication can be inhaled.
- Place your mouth over the stem of the Aerolizer, and take as a deep of a breath as possible. Hold the breath in for 5 to 10 seconds. You will hear the capsule rattle during the inhalation.
- Twist the stem of the Aerolizer away from the base of the inhaler to remove the empty capsule. Throw the empty capsule into the trash.
- Rinse your mouth with water and brush your teeth if desired, although this step is not required with Foradil.
